Empower Girls in Kisoro, Uganda – Help Break the Cycle of Disadvantage
For many girls in Kisoro, Uganda, menstruation means missing up to 7 days of school each month. Without access to basic sanitary supplies, their education suffers, and they fall behind their peers. Traditional taboos and the lack of education surrounding menstruation often cause feelings of shame and isolation. This can lead to girls dropping out of school, losing self-confidence, and ultimately turning to early marriage as their only option.
The impact of missing school extends far beyond education—it affects their future, their sense of self-worth, and their opportunities. Many girls are forced to rely on unsanitary materials like scraps of cloth, foam mattress pieces, or leaves to manage their periods, which are ineffective and can lead to infections.
Recognizing the urgent need for change, the Kisoro Community Volunteer Association has launched a Pad Project to provide girls with reusable pads and menstrual kits, allowing them to attend school with dignity. Our goals are to:
-
Raise awareness about the challenges girls face due to lack of menstrual supplies

-
Recruit volunteers to sew reusable pads
-
Raise funds to provide the necessary materials, including underpants and sewing machines
-
Distribute reusable pads to girls in remote Kisoro villages
-
Teach girls how to make their own reusable pads, empowering them to create income and gain independence
-
Incorporate reproductive health education into local schools to reduce stigma and ignorance

Your support is crucial in helping us provide the tools necessary for girls to manage their menstruation with dignity, continue their education, and have the opportunity to shape a brighter future. Please join us in this vital cause—your donation will help purchase fabrics, undergarments, and sewing machines for the Pad Project. Together, we can help these girls thrive and break free from the limitations they face.

Kisoro District is one of the Districts of Uganda. It is situated in the extreme part of the southwestern region of the county. It is bordered by Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Rugged valleys, spurs plateaus and hills characterized it.

ONE BIG FAMILY
It’s mainly a high altitude area-well over 1800 meters above sea level. One of the prominent features in this place is the dead volcano of Muhavura Mountain. It has two rainfall peaks, one in January and one in September. It’s generally a cold place with a mild – cold climate.
Due to its difficult terrain and big population, there are a lot of challenges faced by the inhabitants: depend mainly on agriculture, producing little for substance. However, despite the above problems, itÂ’s also blessed with beautiful scenery and good resources like; the endangered mountain gorillas which attract large numbers of tourists from all over the world.
